TEACHING / SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES
Currently, as Chairman of Surgery I am responsible for the section of Surgery Education at Staten Island University Hospital. This includes Medical Students, Residents, Fellows and Research. I developed a curriculum with SUNY Downstate Medical Center to monitor Medical Student education, faculty development and student oral and written testing. I am directly involved in student lectures and case presentation both at Staten Island University Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
In regards to residents I maintain an ACGME approved general surgery residency including development of curriculum with ACS SCORE program, faculty development and recruiting, weekly ICU rounds, weekly senior resident education rounds. I am also responsible for our senior resident rotation on Thoracic Surgery.
As director of surgery for the SIM Lab at Staten Island University Hospital I currently develop protocols and instruct both students and residents on advanced and basic medical skills
I am currently directing and supervising a growing research section which includes seven staff members, data collection, analysis and reporting. Monthly departmental meeting also enhance our ongoing research projects
